Site changes, and a big thank you to BCK fans

Upcoming changes
  • Although the comic links will remain the same, most other links on the site will be changing. This is because I'm changing the taxonomy (categorization) and structure of some things.
  • The site will get a facelift.
  • There shall be a new section for you to promote your webcomic or other site--Possibly with reviews, a voting system, etc., but I haven't decided on the votes and reviews yet. All I will ask if you add your link to the list is that you link back to this site.
  • Other new sections will include resource links for graphics, general website stuff, fonts, and more.
  • New cast and crew pages, eventually cross-linked between each character and the episodes in which they appear.
  • Lords of the Living Room, a comic I did briefly a while back, will come to this site. I may be starting another comic on this site, as well.

The upcoming changes are in the little box to the right. I think you'll like some of them.

But first I have to gush a little bit and express my appreciation for you guys--Especially all of you Blue Crash Kit fans. (And by the way, comic updates will become more and more frequent as I get more comfortable drawing--most of you know about the spine injury that affects my right arm), and as I begin working with other artists. It's the art that slows things down.)

Anyway. Ahem...
Almost 3,000 (out of 18,000) BCK fans are back already--Less than three weeks of the comic being back from the dead!
I feel loved (or at least the comic does). Thank you so much for your patience and continued readership. I honestly wondered if BCK would be entirely forgotten by now.

Instead, after a year-long hiatus, and even though I've barely begun updating again, even though I'm doing the comic mostly by myself now (Don't worry--Shannon and I are still together and very much in love), even though I haven't done any promotion at all other than emailing those who registered at the old site with the new URL, and even though I haven't really been making much with teh funneh yet--Mostly just moving the plot along a bit...

Well, check this out. I need to set up some context for why I'm squeeing.

In case you weren't aware, back when we were updating regularly, Blue Crash Kit had around 18,000 or so unique visitors each month (Meaning that no matter how many times someone came to the site that month, they were only counted once as far as monthly number of visitors go.), averaged between 2,000 and 3,000 unique visitors per day (daily uniques are counted separately from monthly) and served around 900,000 page views a month. These statistics do not include bots, spiders, etc.

Now, that's not earth-shattering by any means, but not too bad for a goofy little webcomic. You guys also put BCK in the Alexa top 100,000 back then (Alexa is a website rating company that ranks all the millions or so sites worldwide, and being in their top 100,000 is a BIG deal.), and gave us a pretty decent standing on the webcomics topsites lists in which we participated.

Now, less than three weeks after resuming updates--again, without promoting-- nearly three thousand of you are already back, and together you've viewed nearly 60,000 pages. This warms the cockles of my heart. It isn't the numbers themselves, but what the numbers represent.

So to all of BCK's fans and friends, both old and new, thank you, thank you, thank you. Since Talon, Firecat, and Enigma first started fighting crime and defending Earth, you guys have been wonderful to us in every way. You've cheered us on during the good times, and, during the bad times--Like Shannon's myriad health issues, my accidents (I need to re-post the "wear your helmet" pics from the one accident), the breakup of our triad, and more, you've encouraged us, agonized alongside us, sympathized with us, and when we were in dire financial need (and when aren't we?), you even paid our bills for us.

And now, even after a year, you're still there. I cannot imagine a more fantastic group of fans and friends. You are why I do this.

I love all of you more than cheese.

Monday's update comes on Tuesday

Update: Finished and posted.
Tried a couple of inking shortcuts that blew up in my face (costing about two hours), and I'm still getting used to the tablet. So while the plan was to stay up until I had a comic posted, I'm going to bed, and will finish and post it tomorrow (Tuesday). Here's what I was able to salvage (Click for a larger image):

Finally back in the saddle

It's good to be back, and I appreciate the kind words from all of you who have been so patient during my year-long hiatus from the comic.

I'm sure you've all noticed that I've moved BCK to a section of my blog site... read more »

Belated return

Just wanted to let you know we haven't forgotten about you. I've been busy since late November working on the launch of the Sage Comics webcomic collective at http://www.sage-comics.com and getting some prep work done on a couple of other projects that I've had on the back burner for ages.

In addition to that, we've been going through a bit of chaos here, so we shall likely be a little late in our return. I have the final two strips from Mike to assemble, color, letter, etc., and need to get some scripts to Shannon. In another bit of good news, Amee wants to come back, too, once she gets a few things straightened out, so we're going to find a way for her and Shan to share art duties.

So... Sorry to put this off, guys. We'll have the last of Mike's art up by the end of March or early April, to be shortly followed by Shannon's triumphant return.

Access problems fixed

Thanks to Noshoba and Misteriosa for pointing out the problem to me. I had been mucking about with things to improve the navigation and, like an idiot, didn't set up a test site first. If anyone hears of any further access problems, let me know, 'kay?

Everyone should be receiving an email notification about the site problems and the repair, but since I've not had to use that feature before, if say, ten or so people could let me know whether they've gotten theirs within a couple of hours from now, that'll give me a good idea.

Things to come!

Shan is back!
At least for a while. Shan is back doing the characters while Mike does backgrounds and stuff and gets up to speed on a style that more closely matches what we're used to in BCK.

Fewer ads--and Wallpaper!
You may have noticed that we got rid of the big tower ad to the left of the comic. It may cut into our pocketbook a bit, but frankly, I was tired of having so many ads on the site, and I'm sure you were, too. Instead, we're giving away various wallpapers to anyone who donates a dollar or more to the "Feed the Cartoonists" fund, and hoping that makes up for taking the ad off.
Prints for sale!

Prints, prints, prints!
I've gotten several prints designed that we're going to be producing locally--which lets us keep the price down and makes for faster shipping--in both 11x17 and 8-1/2x11 mini-posters, all of which will be signed by Shannon. I'll get them up on the store page soon. read more »

Translations are here! And you can help without waiting for me! (From Rob)

If you want to help write English transcripts and/or translations to other languages, leave them in comments to the appropriate comic. If not in English, put the language in the subject line of your comment. We eventually want to have all translations right here, instead of using Google Translate.

Just look at how I transcribed them and use that as a model. Don't worry if it isn't perfect. Extra points for those who take time to translate my other ramblings in the box under the comic, but no paints taken off for those who stick to just the content of the comic.

If translating to a language in which the joke (like all my bad puns) don't make sense, it'd be nice if you could explain the joke.

And why didn't I think of this before? Because I'm a dork; that's why. Yes, I am a whale's penis (the original meaning of the word, "dork"). read more »

New BCK merchandise is up just in time for the holidays!

New BCK merchandise is up just in time for the holidays!

We've got several online stores now, a bunch of different designs, and well over a hundred types of merchandise to choose from, including shirts, boxers, thongs (We keep joking that our characters are trying to get into people's pants.), coffee cups, mouse pads... The list goes on and on. Use and enjoy!

Some of you may remember Jessica Wild, our official BCK spokesmodel. Here she is modeling a few of the items available. Since these shots were taken, the quality has only improved!

Regular posts and new merchandise for the holidays!

We should be resuming regular updates by the end of this week or early next week. Yay!

Also, I'm hard at work designing over 100 merchandise items to which I'll be posting links soon--Hopefully later tonight.

The list includes: Posters, shirts (including Kit's "Bloody Knife" tank, already available), underwear (Get the BCK characters into your pants!) magnets, buttons, calendars, and... the list goes on.

I'm trying to keep prices down for you, so things like buttons, etcetera, I'm only marking up one dollar, and so far I'm not marking up the shirts or anything by more than five over our cost.

If there's enough interest, we may even do BCK Christmas ornaments.

We can make arrangements to sign your merchandise if you like, but that will obviously take longer and cost a little more, since in order to sign them, we'll have to get them sent here, sign them, then ship them out to you.

It's still going to be a little while on the figurines, unfortunately.
